Before joining the university sector some eight years ago, Adrian worked
in Fortune 500 companies - Silicon Systems and AT&T - and served in
the public sector to provide strategic planning and manage budgets up
to £100 million. The latter successfully brought him to work alongside
major environmental consultancy firms such as Fichtner, CH2M Hill, and
Parsons Brinckerhoff to support a long-term programme in national competitiveness.
His PhD, awarded by the Manchester Business School and the Manchester
Institute of Innovation Research, examined the determinants of national
competitiveness. He obtained his MBA from the Strathclyde Graduate Business
School, with academic background including a professional Bachelor of
Engineering degree from Singapore, a Diploma in International Law from
the University of Helsinki, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional
Development from the University of Huddersfield.
Adrian is an occasional reviewer for peer-assessed journals such as the
Academy of Management Journal and Business Ethics: A European Review.
His work on regional competitiveness has received support from the European
